Re:Create

Re:Create is a process-based art program that uses illustration, color theory and storytelling to help individuals reconnect with their inner voice. Through guided creative exercises, participants transform personal narratives into visual form, uncovering new perspectives and cultivating self-trust. The focus is on process over product, allowing art-making to become a space for reflection, healing and transformation.

Community Healing Workshops

In collaboration with Temple Children, the Zonta Club of Hilo, and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for Hawai‘i County, artist Ishtar Bäcklund Dakhil led a creative residency and workshop series designed to support local survivors of domestic violence.

Through visual storytelling, illustration, and color exploration, participants found healing and empowerment in expressing their personal and collective experiences.

The resulting collaborative artwork was unveiled in a public ceremony at the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and now resides permanently in the lobby of the Hilo office. Serving as both a public statement and an enduring symbol of awareness, the piece stands as a testament to resilience and community solidarity against domestic violence.

Nā Leo TV documented the workshops and unveiling, producing a powerful short film that highlights the creative process and the profound impact on participants and partners alike.
